| Yesterday, I was interviewed on Fox 45 here in Baltimore, in regards to a rather notorious murder trial that is underway in Baltimore City Circuit Court. The case involves 3 defendant's charged with the murder of a young child, who allegedly was starved to death for his failure to say "amen" either before or after meals. The defendant's, apparently members of a religious cult, have all opted to represent themselves at trial, rather than have counsel. Fox 45 interviewed me regarding the pro's & con's of a defendant bypassing counsel in a case such as this. Quite frankly, as I stated on the air, I think this is a bad decision by the defendant's, as they are being prosecuted by experienced State's Attorney's, yet do not possess sufficient legal skills or knowledge of their own. The analogy I used when interviewed was that this was like going into a gunfight armed only with a butterknife. Only time will tell of course whether the decision of these defendant's to forego counsel was a wise one or not. | Topics
