| I just concluded representation of a client who was charged with violating his probation as a result of being charged with a new crime, in this case, assault. Back in 2009, the client was given an 8-year prison sentence, which was suspended, and placed on probation. Naturally, one of the conditions of probation is to obey all laws. Unfortunately for the client, he was recently arrested and charged with assault. When the probation agent notified the court of the new arrest, the judge from the probation case issued a warrant for the client's arrest, and ordered him held without bond, pending a hearing on whether in fact he had violated his probation. Just last week, I represented the client on the new assault charge, and was able to get it dismissed. Today, I appeared before the judge who issued the no-bail warrant, and, in light of the fact that the assault case was thrown out, the judge dismissed the violation of probation case as well, meaning the client is home. | Topics
